Women in Manufacturing™ Launches Community Chapter in New Jersey
Women in Manufacturing™ (WiM) announced the launch of its newest community chapter, WiM New Jersey. WiM is the nearly 500-member-strong national organization dedicated to the attraction, retention and advancement of women who are pursuing or who have chosen a career in the manufacturing industry.
WiM Director Allison Grealis welcomed the newest community chapter saying, “As part of our organization’s mission, WiM has a developing network of community chapters which serve the important role of enabling members to better connect on a local level.” She continued, “WiM communities are designed to bring together women where they are, allowing them to participate in networking events, develop new contacts, and truly become advocates for women in the manufacturing industry – all while learning about business development and job opportunities in their communities.”
Co-directing WiM New Jersey are Judith Fleischer of the New Jersey Manufacturing Extension Program, Inc. and Jo Ann Mitchell of Sandvik Coromant USA.
“We are thrilled to bring the work of this valuable organization to New Jersey,” said Fleischer. “As our industry strives for sustained growth, we are pleased to be a part of efforts to support the current manufacturing sector workforce and also to attract a new generation of women workers to careers in manufacturing.”
According to federal data, manufacturing employs nearly 245,000 New Jerseyans. The sector added 2,800 jobs in the state last month.
WiM New Jersey joins current community chapters in Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Tennessee and Wisconsin. Each community chapter is pioneered and run by a WiM member. Chapters typically meet bimonthly and meetings range in subject matter based on the interests of members.
