FDA Issues its First Mandatory Recall – Salmonella Contaminated Kratom Supplements
Kratom is a supplement sold at many headshops & convenience stores around the US for the purpose of assisting in “opioid withdrawal symptoms and pain management.” It first came under the FDA’s radar about a month ago with several Salmonella sicknesses being traced back to its consumption. Due to the increase in cases, growing evidence of bacterial contamination in multiple products and the company’s refusal to voluntarily recall all products, the FDA used their newly granted authority to mandate a recall for the first time since FSMA was passed in 2011.
