Why Manufacturing Day Matters: Save The Date For October 3rd

By Lynore DeSantis, CFO of NJMEP

U.S. manufacturing is the cornerstone of our economy… and around the globe for that matter! Did you know that U.S. manufacturing is the tenth largest economy in the world? Take a look at some of these other stats:

  • Manufacturing supports more than 17.4 million jobs
  • For every $1.00 spent in manufacturing, $1.48 is created for the U.S. economy
  • Nearly 12% of the nation’s GDP is from manufacturing

Manufacturing also offers diverse career opportunities and well-paying jobs. The annual average salary of a manufacturing worker is $77k and manufacturing employees boast the highest job tenure in the private sector.

When it comes to the Garden State, we may be small in size, but don’t underestimate our impact! According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the industry accounts for more than 247,000 workers in NJ. The National Association of Manufacturers reports that we’re home to more than 9,100 manufacturing establishments!

With manufacturing packing such a mighty punch for both our state and national economy, we need to get the public to understand the importance of our sector. This is the role of National Manufacturing Day.

National Manufacturing Day was established in 2012 to expand the knowledge about and improve the public’s view of manufacturing careers and the industry’s value to the U.S. economy. The celebration looks to raise awareness about manufacturing’s impact and change the perception of manufacturing careers for future generations.

With manufacturing driving our economic recovery, it’s important that business and community leaders, legislative representatives and students and educators, all understand how vital the manufacturing sector is to economic growth.

NJMEP is proud to announce that we are holding our annual Made in New Jersey event in celebration of National Manufacturing Day on Friday, October 3rd. The event will occur at The Palace at Somerset Park at 33 Davidson Avenue, Somerset, NJ 08873.

We’ll gather to celebrate the importance of New Jersey’s manufacturing sector and the event will include:
