Training Grants and the Importance of Workforce Development
Especially in manufacturing, your workforce is your most valuable asset. Enhancing the skills of your current staff, as well as training new employees, are fundamental requirements to success in today’s business climate. While NJ’s manufacturers should always strive to achieve workforce development, it would be a mistake to overlook the utilization of available Workforce Development Grants.
Next Round Announced:
The New Jersey Department of Labor (NJ-DOL) has recently released information on the next round of Workforce Development Grants to help NJ companies upgrade the skills of their current staff and / or train new employees with up to $50,000 per company available Please note that these Grants are developed to be “matching,” as the NJ-DOL pays for the cost of the training. Companies cover the cost of their employees to participate in training. These programs are generally provided on-site.
NJMEP has had great success working with this program and has established itself as one of the top providers of Workforce Development Instruction for manufacturing and STEM-based firms.

*Coming Soon for Food Manufacturers: Use a Grant to Navigate FSMA
Many NJ food manufacturers and members of their supply chain are looking to navigate the changes due to the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). FSMA is now in effect, and 950 new inspectors will be out enforcing the updates. Will you have your Food Safety and HARPC plans ready for them?
It is vital for companies to understand the new rules and enforcement dates. For example, organizations must now comply with the Hazard Analysis and Risk-based Preventive Controls (HARPC) provision in the FSMA. HARCP is a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) plan, but with more defined preventative programs. Companies must address key topics such as allergen control, food defense, pest control, hygiene, cleaning and sanitation. If you are looking to learn more information about FSMA, you can download a complimentary FSMA Information Sheet by clicking here.
Individual Corporation Training Grants and Consortia Grants will be available Click here to learn more.
