NJMEP Hits $200,000 Mark In Year Of Advocacy Program
At our Open House in May 2014, NJMEP officially launched its “Year of Advocacy” program. Surrounded by members of the New Jersey manufacturing community, we made a pledge to “give back” $250,000 in value to New Jersey’s manufacturers.
We are proud to announce that we’ve recently hit the $200,000 marker!
Throughout the year, NJMEP has worked with allies and expert business partners to create new programs and offerings for NJ’s manufacturers at no charge. One example is the Experience Manufacturing program, which addresses the shortage of skilled workers available in the Garden State. NJMEP collects the open positions of New Jersey manufacturers and serves as a bridge to young adults who are looking to explore a career in the field.
NJMEP has also been offering complimentary training days and workshops on various topics critical to manufacturers such as Lean and ISO certifications. NJMEP has also been providing process and facility assessments for New Jersey manufacturers at no cost.
Why is Advocacy Important?
We need to restore manufacturing to its rightful place as a pillar of New Jersey’s economy in the public’s mind.
When people from around the nation hear, “New Jersey,” they often think of things like The Sopranos, Bruce Springsteen or Jon Bon Jovi, or pizza. While there’s nothing wrong with that… we need to include manufacturing on that list!
The Garden State is home to over 9,100 manufacturing establishments of all different sizes. More than 247,000 workers are employed through manufacturing according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and we offer some of the highest paying careers in the state. The industry, which is comprised of approximately 20 different sectors, is one of the largest contributors of our state’s economy.
Manufacturing also has a “multiplier” effect on our economy. Meaning, every manufacturing job creates at least four additional jobs. For every $1.00 spent in manufacturing, $1.48 is created for the economy. The industry’s strong impact to our state is precisely why we need advocacy for NJ’s manufacturing community.
Let’s work together to spread awareness about New Jersey manufacturing! You can check out some of the diverse range of products manufactured in the Garden State by checking out our Made in New Jersey program.
