Improve Your Manufacturing Company Website With These 5 Steps

By Koleen Singerline, Guest Blogger, SVP at Grass Roots Marketing

It has never been more important to have a compelling, optimized website for your manufacturing company. Your website is the face of your company on the internet; it’s the front-window display of your products in your shop. According to studies, 78% of manufacturers agree that their company website is one of their top three sources of lead generation.

Appearance, content and navigation all have a tremendous role in a website’s ability to generate qualified leads, but any manufacturing company can have an attractive website. If there aren’t any connected outlets like social media or blogs that will assist in increasing website traffic or any incentives for visiting the site (like free resources), there can be many missed opportunities for a sale.

These 5 tips for improving your manufacturing company website will assist with generating online sales leads:

1)     Make sure your website is mobile-friendly

According to Google, if there isn’t a mobile-friendly site for your business, 61% of visitors will return to a search engine to find a site that offers easier readability and navigation. Also, a quarter of all internet surfing happens on a mobile device. You wouldn’t want to miss out on the opportunity for extra traffic to your website!

2)     Be sure to have detailed explanations of your products and services

When a visitor lands on your website, the first thing they should be able to find out is who you are and what you do. There should be a page dedicated to your company’s products and services with a detailed description of what your company manufactures. Add visuals like a product photo gallery or an informative chart about your services. Visuals make it simple for the human eye to process the message your website is trying to portray.

3)     Include call-to-action’s and contact forms or buttons on every page

You want the website visitor to stay on your site for as long as possible and the goal is to get that visitor to submit their contact information to become a lead. A call-to-action directs the visitor to act on something, for example, downloading a resource or prompting them to visit another page on the website. This is an easy way to gather their information to assist with lead conversion. Always try to include an incentive like a free checklist or e-book in return for the visitor submitting their information.

4)     Keep a consistent social media presence

There are currently 1.1 billion Facebook users, 500 million Twitter users and 225 million LinkedIn users. It is necessary to have a strong social media presence in this digital age. When used properly, social media use will drive traffic to your manufacturing website because it strengthens marketing efforts for your products, assists with brand awareness and creates networking opportunities. Make sure to include links to your social media pages on your website and share only industry-related content to your social media followers.

5)     Keep your blog up-to-date

Blogging works wonders for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) because it creates more pages and content to be crawled by search engines to make it easier to be found during a search. It also positions your company as trusted subject-matter experts to readers. Attempt to write a new blog post twice per month at least to keep readers interested and to give them more incentive to return to your website. Write industry-relevant content but avoid excessively marketing your company. Remember, you want to help and inform the reader.

The internet is always evolving, but with patience and hard work, your company’s website can indeed capture sales leads. These five steps build the framework for web success; the rest is maintenance and dedication.
