Building A Stronger Workforce In 2015 (And Announcing Workforce Training Grants!)

With 2015 right around the corner, now is the time to focus on workforce development.

In today’s competitive environment, your staff is your company’s most valuable asset. With the right workforce in place, you can improve productivity and profitability. After all, an engaged workforce does more than just meets the demand of your target audience – they proactively help your business improve, suggest new ideas and spur innovations.

Many companies are still struggling with workforce engagement and retention efforts and studies and surveys alike are confirming this. At the national Conference Board’s CEO Challenge, a survey of senior executives named “human capital, or how best to develop, engage, manage and retain talent, as their lead challenge.” A survey from CareerBuilder relayed that “68% of employers are worried about losing employees”.

In 2015, prioritize upgrading the skills of your current staff and training new employees through projects such as:

  • Lean Transformation
  • ISO Process – towards Certification
  • Business Development – Sales & Marketing
  • Supervisory Development
  • ESL-Tech – Safety, etc.
  • Leadership / DSI
  • Disaster Awareness & Planning

The timing is perfect, as the New Jersey Department of Labor (NJ-DOL) has released information on the next Round of Workforce Development Grants. Here are the important deadlines:

  • January 16, 2015: Letters of Intent
  • January 30, 2015: Grant Submittals

*Information due to NJMEP by 1/23/15 to ensure timely & accurate submittal

Please note that these Grants are developed to be “matching” as the NJ-DOL pays for the cost of the Training. Companies cover the cost of their employees to participate in training. These programs are generally provided on-site.
